Interior Design Transformation in Friendswood, Texas
By Design Interiors, an award-winning interior design firm based in Houston, updated this traditional home in Friendswood, TX, in collaboration with Erika Barczak.
Project Highlight - What inspired the design?
The inspiration for this large custom home was to embrace the scale while creating an intimate feeling within each room.
“We wanted to incorporate a blend of modern and traditional pieces to pair with an inviting neutral color palette, cozy textures, fabrics, and natural stone,” said By Design Interiors. “The overall design is both grand yet grounded, being a space for hosting large gatherings yet still allowing the homeowners to comfortably cozy up by the fireplace with a good book.”
The design of the residence is best described as updated traditional, as it combines traditional and contemporary design elements with classic yet unique selections. The warmth of the natural stone of the fireplace wall juxtaposes the frameless fireplace and the neighboring elegant wine cellar.

The natural stone adds depth with its large scale and textured look. “Due to the room's neutral color palette, texture was an important factor; we selected the stone with that in mind,” By Design Interiors said. “It helped add a cozy feel to the large expanse of the room that’s inviting and comfortable for daily living.”
The goal was to meet the homeowner's needs for a luxurious space for hosting work events, parties, and large gatherings while maintaining its sense of 'home.' It needed to be a space for them to comfortably enjoy their daily lives and routines.
Tanner Sammons - @morganmadison_
Exquisite Redesign of Ohio Interior
Tanner Sammons of Morgan Madison Design has a keen eye for architecture and a deep knowledge of construction and materiality. The interior of this Ohio lake house reflects his passion for great design and erudite perspective.
Project Highlight - What inspired the design?
This project was inspired by the desire to preserve the residence's character through the design process. "I had seen variations of this design throughout the years, but nothing that was exactly right for what we were trying to achieve, a spectacular floor with the appearance of having been installed in 1933, when this lake house was built," he said. "Something perfectly imperfect."
Tanner designed the home, with its age and its soul, always in mind, with the addition of thoughtful custom details.

"We worked with MATERIAL to define the scale of the tiles comprising the floor, which was certainly the most challenging aspect of this design," Tanner said. "We went through a couple of rounds of sampling to make sure the final result was just right."
- Sable provided warmth to the space with its brown color and subtle grey undertone.
- Nero Marquina connected the kitchen and dining room to other spaces throughout the home (such as the adjacent Great Room, Entry, and Sunroom).
- Imperial Danby was the most challenging of the stone specifications. Instead of using Calacatta Gold to tie into the counters and wall surfacing, Tanner chose Danby because its mellow patterning was easier on the eye.
Dana Clemons - @clemonsdesignco
Elegant Primary Bathroom in Brentwood, TN
Dana Clemons of Clemons Design Co., based in Brentwood, TN, uses her background to craft interiors with functionality and beauty in mind. Her favorite part of the design process is the trust and collaboration she develops with every client.
Project Highlight - What inspired the design?
The inspiration came from the desire to transform the principal bathroom into a space that was not only soft and serene, but also infused with history.
“My client loved Calacatta gold marble, but we knew that having marble everywhere would not give her that softness we wanted,” she said. “With this being a new construction project, we didn’t want the room to feel too polished; there needed to be some character added to help it feel lived in.”

This selection had the soft tones Dana was looking for; it worked perfectly with the marble and the Parisian finish gave them the character they wanted.
